From the band's earliest roots as the Burgh of Govan Police Pipe Band through to it's present day identity, competitive success at the highest level has always been a key element of the exemplary reputation harboured by the band on behalf of Strathclyde Police. The band is also enjoyed by the communities of Strathclyde who attend the numerous public engagements in which the band performs throughout the force area.

As one of only a handful of professional pipe bands worldwide, the membership of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band is primarily made up of operational police officers who are based with the Pipe Band Unit stationed in the City Centre of Glasgow. The present strength of the band is augmented by several civilian guest players.

The band comes under the experienced leadership of Pipe Major Donald Mackay and Drum Sergeant Eric Ward. Both are well known figures in the pipe band community and together their goal is to ensure that Strathclyde Police Pipe Band remains as a dominant force in major pipe band competition.
